Missions
Nazarene Missions International (NMI) is an organization designed to inform us about what is going on in the work and lives of missionaries throughout the world that are supported by the Nazarene denomination. The Church of the Nazarene supports over 773 missionaries in 151 world areas. Shawnee Church has a vision for missions not only internationally, but locally as well. We offer a variety of ways to become involved.
Missions Education
We believe that it is important to educate the local church about mission work around the world. This is done through missionary books, special missionary speakers, and regular updates on current missionary successes and global concerns.
Faith Promise 2009-2010
Faith Promise is our annual focus to help us see how we can make a missional investment in others- both globally and locally. Each year in October we will make our Faith Promise pledges for the next 12 months. These pledges will be the money that- as God enables us- we commit to give to missions. All Faith Promise monies go to support missions beyond our local church budget.
Monies Pledged to Missions, 2009-2010: $95,145
"For I testify that they gave as much as they were able, and even
beyond their ability. Entirely on their own, they urgently pleaded with
us for the privilege of sharing in this service of the saints. And they
did not do as we expected, but they gave themselves first, to the Lord
and then to us in keeping with God's will." 2 Corinthians 8:3-4, NIV
Work and Witness
Every year Shawnee Church sends a group of volunteers, or Work & Witness teams, to another country for hands on participation in missions. We have sent teams to the Amazon, Argentina, Caribbean, Russia, Guatemala and Oklahoma City.
This summer we have a group traveling to Switzerland. They will be serving and ministering at European Nazarene College.
LINKS
The LINKS (Loving Interested Nazarenes Knowing and Sharing) program of the Church of the Nazarene is a network of personal connections between missionaries and Nazarenes around the world. This gives each church an opportunity to become personally acquainted with a specific missionary family and their field of service. Churches can send packages, cash gifts, cards, and other remembrances to their LINKS missionaries.

Child Sponsorship
There are so many children world wide who need help with food, housing and education. Through our Nazarene Compassionate Ministries program, we offer individuals, families and Sunday School classes the opportunity to care for disadvantaged children. All sponsors have direct contact with their child on a regular basis through cards and letters.
World Mission Broadcast
World Mission Broadcast reaches millions around the world for Christ via broadcast media, especially radio. The WMB offering, received in June each year, provides funding for program production, airtime, and follow-up materials. Holiness programming, delivered by radio, television and the Internet, reaches around the world with the message of Jesus and his redeeming love and helps to disciple those who respond.

Alabaster
The Alabaster offering is based on the story of the woman bathing Jesus' feet with perfume from a carved alabaster container. Building on that Biblical story, Nazarenes save their change in their "alabaster box" and to give that money to world missions (in sort of the same way that the woman gave her bottle of perfume to Jesus).
The combined participation by thousands of people in these September and February offerings helps to build buildings for world evangelism.

Nazarene Compassionate Ministries
In 1984, the Church of the Nazarene General Board instituted Nazarene Compassionate Ministries to meet the physical, emotional, relational intellectual, and spiritual needs of the world.
The Nazarene Compassionate Ministries offers encouragement worldwide through prayer support, information, Crisis Care Kits, and hands-on opportunities.
The first Sunday in December is Compassion Sunday in the Church of the Nazarene.
Missionary Healthcare
Though there are several insurance companies that offer worldwide coverage under their plans; The Church of the Nazarene has chosen to continue coverage via a self-funded plan for economic reasons. Those expenses total approximately $2.9 million each year.
